If an employee has facial hair, they are also required to wear a beard net. Some food industries require employees to wear hair nets and gloves as well. We are human, innovative, and dynamic individuals that are feeling their way between traditional norms and innovated life styles that command the way we think. The human race is intuitive, imaginative, and spontaneous; therefore, we recognize the reality of critical situations. “Never be fooled by what you see on the outside because on the inside is often a different story.” This unknown author was saying that what you where and how you look can describe a totally different personality than what it looks. This idea can be seen in the book, True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, by Avi where the theme is Don’t judge a book by its cover. One example of the this theme is in the beginning of the book on page 29 Charlotte thought to herself “From his fine coat, from his tall beaver hat, from his glossy black boots, from his clean, chiseled countenance, from the dignified way he carried himself, I knew at once—without having to be told—that this must be Captain Jaggery. And he—I saw it in a glance—was a gentleman, the kind of man I was used to.…

What Meets The Eye That cliché line that most of us have herd, “It shouldn’t matter on how someone looks on the outside because beauty is on the inside”, or some version of that, but in our society it’s not true. I always had beliefs that being attractive gets you places and gives you opportunities in life, but I didn’t truly realize this until I read Daniel Akst’s, “What Meets The Eye”. When I think of attractive people, I imagine celebrities, all-star athletes, and leaders or “poster children” of huge, well known companies. All of these people have two things in common, attractiveness and fame.…

With any good relationship between two people, proper communication is the key to respecting one another and creating a solid structure for a long-lasting connection. Communication can make someone feel wanted, secure, and provide them with a sense of happiness in life. On the other hand, a lack of communication between individuals can cause a feeling of loneliness in someone and typically leads to the termination of a relationship. The issue of improper communication can be present with two females or two males, however, it most commonly exists between females and males. This likely happens because some males tend to engage interest in women for their looks, rather than their personalities.…

One article that we had read during class that I believe personally that is very important is “Dressing for the job” by Ann Marie Sabath. In this article, Ann Marie Sabath talks about the unwritten “rules” in the workforce. In college, students are taught the rules of the classroom or the rules of the campus while in the workforce these rules are not stated straightforwardly. A rule in the workforce that would be as Ann Marie Sabath calls “unwritten” would be dress code. Going into a job you have to make sure that the clothing you wear everyday is appropriate.…

Aleksandra Tyzkiewicz Social Psychology 9.08.2015 INTRODUCTION Many people have been strongly attracted to someone, maybe even in love. The main problem is that these two are separated by a very thin line, as a matter of fact many people confuse attraction with love. These people believe that the feelings they have for the other person are so strong that they passed the attraction phase and walked into what is so called “love”. These feelings usually lead to relationships and this is what psychologists have been trying to explain; they say that a relationship is characterized by “love, care, commitment and intimacy” and only then it can be classified as consummate love, which means that all of these characteristics are present. This paper…

“Don’t judge a book by it's cover” this is a saying I’m sure most people have heard, but how many of us really take it to heart? In the essay “Working at Wendy’s,” written by Joey Franklin, the truth of this statement is really brought to light. Anyone can find a time, just as Franklin did, when he or she felt as though they were being judged unfairly. I know there have been many times in my life where I have felt as though people have made poor presumptions about me, and where I have been guilty of the same offense. Joey Franklin describes his feelings and experiences while working at Wendy’s; I can easily relate his story to my own experiences of allowing others’ views to change the decisions I make, my assumptions of others, and my thoughts regarding myself,…

While employers have a vast scope in what they may expect in terms of grooming and dress, they are not allowed to have standards that in effect cause the employee to be sexually harassed. Therefore, employers should keep appearance standards job-related and when faced with a request for an exception based on race, sex, religion, or some other protected class, seek human resource and/or legal counsel. All the more it is important for employees to comply with the workplace rules as they have been set to ensure the health and safety of the employees. Generally, every company has rules and commands that should be followed and adhered to by the employees as well as the employers to maintain order and a healthy working…
