Do you know who Juan N. Seguin is?If you don’t, he was a tejano who helped established Texas’s independence. In this passage I will tell you everything you need to know about Juan N. Seguin. Juan Seguin was born October 27, 1806 in San Antonio. At the age of 12 Juan got his very first horse. While he was still a child, he was encouraged to read and write by his father. He started work at his father’s post office. Then he started his career at a public service. He worked there till he was nineteen then he told his dad, Erasmo Seguin, that he was quitting and getting married. He got married to Maria Gertrudis Flores de Abrego. Juan and Maria had ten children during their whole time they were together. One of their sons name was Santiago and he was the mayor of Nuevo Laredo and their other son Juan Jr. was …show more content…
He first started by fighting with the mexican army but then he betrayed them and came to Texas. Then he continued his career when Stephen F. Austin gave him a captain's commission. That's when Juan was ranked captain for the Texas army and got thirty-seven people to scout and supply for the revolutionary war. After, Juan went to the Alamo when the mexican army arrived but he did not fight at the battle because he was sent out to be courier. Then he went to Gonzales. There, he was a guard fleeing families during the runaway scrape. In 1841 he was elected mayor and he only served for one year. Also out of all the Senate's he was the only Mexican-Texan there. And it was hard for him because he could not speak english very well. After that he fought with Texas in the battle of San Jacinto and they won. Later Juan went to his father's house and was elected Justice of Peace in Bexar county. He also served as county judge in Wilson county in 1869.Later he went back to Mexico with his son, Santiago, who was mayor of Nuevo Laredo,Tamaulipas. Seguin died seven years later on August 27, 1890. His body was soon brought back to Texas and he was buried in a town called,
