Jrotc Research Paper

JROTC or the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps was a program established in 1916 by the National Defense act. JROTC is usually in high school but can be found in some middle schools. The reason for this program is to instill a sense of patriotism, self-reliance, team building skills, and leadership skills. The program has been shown to have a great effect on students over the years and the benefits of this program have been proven over and over. Over the years though the program has seen many changes. Even though the program still strives to pursue the same goals as it did back then, there have been notable changes that have been made. Being that the program was just established it was more military base where you would have to learn about the military and not just about citizenship and government base topics. Also with that people in the program were also expected to maintain a high military appearance. The cadets in the program were also expected to perform physical activities and had to be highly disciplined. Compared to today where I think the program isn’t as strict; the program today definitely has some differences to where the program was back when it was first introduced. Today’s JROTC program has gone through some changes. From my personal experiences the program has changed quite a bit from when I started high school. For my first two years I was in a Marine Corps JROTC where it was very strict. Our military appearance was expected to be maintained in and out of the uniform. We were also expected to be disciplined no matter where we were in the school because we represented the program.
