To earn an associates degree from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) one must take and pass certain classes in order to transfer to a four year institute. One of these many classes is ACA 122-College Transfer Success. It is a one credit course designed to help students who are new to the world of community college and transferring to succeed in the future. For me personally I was not so lucky. This is my last semester at GTCC so this class has been a bit of an annoyance rather than helpful, because a large section of the class is geared towards planning out one’s course schedule for their remanning semesters at GTCC.…

One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…

    1. When people think of the term “business,” they usually assume that it is the science of making profit. However, being a member of the business academy at Bergen County Academies teaches one more than how to generate profit; the experience opens your eyes to another way of interpreting the world. In sophomore year, I had the honor of competing with several other ABF students in Euro Challenge, a national competition where students formulate monetary policy recommendations based on the economic state of a nation in the Euro Area. Before Euro Challenge, my education in business mostly centered on memorizing various marketing terms and financial ratios.…

Reflecting on the past long, but yet short four years of high school, I cannot help but be exhilarated for the next four to come. I can remember the first day that I walked into the JROTC room like it was just yesterday, butterflies floating in my stomach, my nerves everywhere with a smile on my face because I knew that is where I belong. As time went I took advantage of the program by joining the Armed Drill team as another cadet. Within one year of hard work and innumerable amount of practice I became a squad leader following up to be the first female commander of the Armed Drill team that Sam Houston High has seen. With the proficiency that JROTC has taught me, I decided that it was time to seek out my dream by talking to a recruiter.…

In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…
