Jrotc Reflection

This year, I had the privilege to be part of the JROTC program and I successfully completed my LET 1 year. I learned a great deal and I feel like I have become a better leader and more confident individual. I have participated in many events and look forward to staying in this program for the next three years. This is my experience… During the first few days of JROTC, everything was very new to me. There were new faces all around and I did not recognize anyone from my other classes. I joined JROTC as soon as I could because my sister was in the program ten years ago and loved it. It was one of the main reasons I selected FLHS as my high school. I got familiar with my AI, SFC Madison, class leaders and my classmates quickly because we were in squads and were pushed to work together as a team. During the first week, my AI gave our class a challenge: whoever could memorize the cadet creed perfectly would get a water bottle with the Army logo on it. It was an honor to be selected and although it was pouring and very cold, I enjoyed the trip and I learned a lot. I explored the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration and talked to some medal recipients. Unluckily, I had a nosebleed due to the high temperature inside the tent but it was all part of the experience! I was not one of the escorts so while we were waiting for the rest of the cadets, my friends and I played knockout and shared stories about our teams and experiences. Speaking of teams, I was part of the armed drill team for the first four months of school. I loved drill and felt that it was the best team for me. I would have competed in nationals but I could not handle the long practices and hour-long travel so I had to quit.
