Jrotc Reflection

Only participating in this class my freshman year, I can confidently say that I learned and experienced so much. The first reason behind my choice goes all the way back to my earlier education. I had no preconceived notions of what the class entailed, nor any way to reliably predict how i’d perform. Core classes such as math or english begin with a knowledge base that students begin to learn as toddlers; while JROTC was begun with no experience or physical/emotional background in that environment. With the help of the JROTC mission of “To Motivate Young People to Become Better Citizens," I am one step closer every day to being the person I have worked so hard to be. This mission has helped me learn the values of law, truthfulness and trustworthiness, and has deepened my moral courage. Reading and reviewing the text, I have come to realize the true meaning of the law. It is there to help and protect people who cannot do that for themselves.…

When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. We formed the group of four people promptly and waited for the topic to be assigned. The topic was assigned in week 9, while in other courses we knew all our topics for group assignments from week 3. Not only the topic for group project was assigned late, but I never had a chance to see the marking rubric and, therefore, to know the instructor’s expectations about my work. Despite the tight deadlines, our group equally divided the workload among four people and started to research the literature about the topic.…

There were new faces all around and I did not recognize anyone from my other classes. I joined JROTC as soon as I could because my sister was in the program ten years ago and loved it. It was one of the main reasons I selected FLHS as my high school. I got familiar with my AI, SFC Madison, class leaders and my classmates quickly because we were in squads and were pushed to work together as a team. During the first week, my AI gave our class a challenge: whoever could memorize the cadet creed perfectly would get a water bottle with the Army logo on it.…

ESOL was an English practicing class, it allowed for students that knew very few English and was a method for us to learn and practice our English. Towards the end of the class as we all headed back from recess, or in my case from ESOL I would have a short time to speak and talk to my friends, and they would always ask about my whereabouts. I would try to explain to them exactly where I was and what I would be doing, and I knew that they did not fully comprehend me, yet I still tried. I would attend my ESOL class all throughout the third grade, by the beginning of…
