This essay will cover how army JROTC came to be, what it has become in present day, and what I believe it will become in the future. Army JROTC began in 196 under a new act. There has been a lot changed and added to JROTC over the past 100 years, and in the years to come JROTC will change slightly, based on the relations of countries across the world and how the U.S is doing as a country.
Army JROTC began in 1916 after the National Defense act was passed. This allowed for high schools to receive loaned federal military equipment to use for JROTC. Although JROTC became a lot more about service and creating good citizens in 1964 when the vitalization act was passed. This act also replaced most active duty JROTC instructors with retired Army members. They didn’t focus a lot on helping the community and such. It all depends upon the wellbeing of our economy and our relation with the United States. If our economy is doing very poorly I think it will become very important to help others and JROTC will become something that many people depend on for help. I think JROTC might become even more service based than it already is. At the same time it might be harder for many kids to gain the ability to join JROTC, because it is generally associated with private schools. Hopefully JROTC can find a way to spread to public schools and become more available to a wider variety of students. Relations with other countries are important as well because it affects the funding of JROTC. If we get in a war with someone military funds will go towards that rather than JROTC. This could create shortages of equipment and discourage many to join JROTC. Over all I think that JROTC will continue to bring a positive effect on the communities in which it resides, and work to make young people into outstanding
