The Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps is a program that helps high school students in life through the military’s leadership and discipline. The program, otherwise known as JROTC, produces substantial opportunities and outlets for student’s future. The United States military is one of these outlets. Statistically speaking, around 40% of JROTC cadets progress into the military (Ohio.edu). I aspire to be a part of this 40% and watch the percentage rise. In each branch of the military, you are fighting for our country and making a difference in the world for the better. Numerous individuals think that the military is just shooting people, but countless people don’t know that the military actually has many different jobs, such as nurses, culinary jobs, and photographers. These jobs help soldiers with injuries, basic living, and documentation. I think that all students should have to take JROTC once in their school career. JROTC is a class available to everyone and it is beneficial to everyone. The program is more than just learning about the military, you learn respect, first aid, anatomy, etc. This class helps me every day with outstanding peers and an exceptional instructor. JROTC produces new outlets for advice and mentorship through projects, activities, lessons, and sports. My plan for after high school is to go to an in-state college for journalism and photography. Post college graduation, I want to join the U.S. Army as a photographer and journalist. I think I would do well in the Army because I am already in the yearbook program and the JROTC program at my school. I report on my school well and hope to continue in reporting and photography.
