My plot twist in the thought of a red herring is that during the game, the player notices a small creature in the camera of their phone run by, the character will say something along the lines of: “What could that be?!” or “I must see what that was, it may help me.” making it an enticing thing to chase.
As the thought of a reversal, the whole game the player believes that they are trying to fight off the demons to win the game and bring back the character’s sister. However, in reality, they were only fighting off the demons of the character’s mind because they killed their sister in the past while playing the game, and they went insane. They only believed that the sister committed suicide and they were now playing the game to bring her back

As Joy sets up the ritual, the player can notice pictures around the house. The camera will focus on the pictures and take focus off of Joy. These pictures show Joy’s family, the mother, who looks sickly and feeble, the brother, who is a young boy, and the twin sister. The player will also notice the urn, which holds the mother’s ashes, and a letter that says “I’m sorry I have to go Love~Mary”. These items will indicate the whole idea that Joy and her brother are the only ones alive. When Joy enters the game the player will be given instructions on how to bring the light on their phone back and why it is important. They will be shown how to draw the circle of sand if they can’t get the light on and are shown that if they don’t continue moving, it means certain death. Joy begins to think she is hallucinating, she seems small creatures in the camera of her phone, but she doesn’t see them with only her own eyes. She walks through her dark, yet humble home, trying to keep the demons at bay. As she walks, she notices many small clues, ranging from notes to blood written clues on the wall. She begins to get an idea that maybe the demons want her to learn a little more about why they play this game, and offer her the prize of her sister’s life

The 2 literary devices that Joy Kogawa used the most effectively in this passage are similes and imagery. You can see the importance of imagery in passage, where Naomi is describing how rough life is in their chicken coop “house.” Especially in the sentence ”the water spills down your boots and your feet are red and itchy for days.” This particular sentence is so important because it appeals to two of your senses, sight and touch. You also see the use of similes in the passage, “my black head a sun-trap even though it’s covered, and lying down in the ditch, faint, and the nausea in waves and the cold sweat.…

Human emotions such as guilt and fear can affect a person’s mind so deeply that it can cause a complete change in their behavioral aspect. A person’s conscience is something that is not really in their control. However, people still try to change that fact by overthinking, not committing sins and doing good deeds so they don’t end up having a guilty conscience. Julio Cortazar an Argentinian novelist famous for his ability to merge realism with imagination does a great job in bringing out a very important topic about human psychological behavior caused due to their consciences in “House Taken Over”. In this short story, it is seen that the protagonist and his sister Irene are suffering from a guilty conscience which is forcing them…

To him, Ireland was meant to be a frugal, self-sufficient, pastoral utopia that centered around a the Church and…

In, “The New Science of Happiness,” Claudia Wells discusses 3 great ways to become more happy. By getting more pleasure out of life, becoming more engaged in what you’re doing, and finding ways to make your life more meaningful, Wells explains these actions can greatly influence your happiness levels. Savoring each and every sensory drop from any given moment will increase your gratitude towards life's seemingly mundane interactions. Which brings us to the large topic of gratitude which Wells, in conjunction with studies by psychologist Robert Emmons, explains that “Gratitude exercises can do more than life one’s mood… they improve physical health, raise energy levels, and, for patients with neuromuscular disease, relieve pain and fatigue.”…

Summary and Reaction to ‘There’s More to Life Than Being Happy’ Emily Esfahani Smith’s article ‘There’s More to Life Than Being Happy’ (The Atlantic: June 2013) discusses the ideas in a book written by Viktor Frankl, a prominent Jewish psychiatrist and neurologist who was a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp. In his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, Frankl concludes that camp prisoners who had found meaning in their life were more satisfied and therefore more likely to survive. Those that had merely been happy in life found it harder to keep a good morale and were less likely to survive. Smith goes on to cite many different sources that give statistics as to how more and more Americans are finding happiness in their lives, but no true meaning.…
