Kamala taught Siddhartha many new things about life and introduced him to many new people. One of these people was a merchant named Kamaswami. Kamaswami took Siddhartha under his wing and taught him how to be a merchant. Soon Siddhartha became a rich and successful merchant. However, Siddhartha still felt unfulfilled in life, he was upset with himself for falling into the trap of wealth and greed. Siddhartha stayed in the city for several years, gambling and losing himself in a cycle of Samsara. Eventually he left the city in a haze of misery and arrived at the river he had crossed so long ago. Siddhartha had completely lost himself, he drifted over the river and was tempted to let himself fall in when suddenly something stopped him. He heard deep inside of himself a voice, that said Om over and over. Suddenly Siddhartha sat down and thought to himself, “Om! and again he knew about Brahman, knew about the indestructibility of life, knew about all that is divine, which he had forgotten” (82). Siddhartha meditated and listened to the Om while sitting by the river, soon he fell into a deep, dreamless, sleep, that which he did not wake from for a long time. When he did wake up, he felt an essence rebirth, he had realized his mistakes and seen the errors of his ways. Siddhartha saw that he had lost himself on his journey but was able to find himself
