Journey In Tim O Brien's Book Divided

Decent Essays
In the novel around the world in eighty days there are many instances where the main charecters have to make a quick desition in order to continue there journey. Here are a few of them. Thee to be exact and these are the ones that I personally found the most influential. As in the ones that in my opinion had the most affect on the outcome of the story.

The first of these would have to be in India. Not when Fogg bought the elephant but when Fogg and Passepartout got arrested for the mistake of passepartout walking in to a sacred Temple without paying attention to the law against it. So they both ended up going to jail for it but thanks to foggs quick (or maby ignorant) thinking he bailed them out with about five thousand pounds. While

Except with this one fogg is unable to get every thing to the way he wants it. So he makes a deal with the captain that he will go the the ships original destination. However he broke this deal almost immediately and ends up forming an uprising and locking the former captain in his room while fogg goes to his destination. The ship soon runs out of coal and fogg ends up making a deal with the captain again that he will buy "only the wooden parts of the ship" for sixty thousand pounds. Passepartout of cours thinks this is out ragout but is even more surprised at what happens next. Fogg ends up burning all the wooden parts of the ship to get to land.

These are a few of the crazy times fogg has made quick and ridiculous divisions that ended up working in his favor. As previously mentioned some of these things also ended up shaping the story and changing what could have happened.

My Thoughts on the Book

In the end I honk this is a great book and I would recommend it to a lot of people I know. I think it was a great idea and it ended up being really interesting. At first I thought that it was going to be a boring book just by the name and the first chapter but the farther in we went in to it the better it got. It just goes to show don't judge a book

I first picked up Highly Illogical Behavior at the recommendation of Mrs. Bock. I had never read a book with a protagonist who had a mental illness that was present in the behavior and the overall plot proceedings throughout the novel. I usually tend to stay within the genres that I am familiar with - romance and realistic fiction. Most of the books that I read are about how a man and a woman fall in love in spite of emotional and physical strife. Highly Illogical Behavior, however, was about a man who had such severe social anxiety that he developed agoraphobia, thus rendering him incapable of leaving his house.…
