Moore’s (2015) article Time to heal the nursing issue: [Third edition] published by the Boston Globe discusses issues of high nursing demands. There is a growing issue with nurse shortages, and it is beginning to affect patient care. Currently, too many patients are being assigned to nurses each shift. This is overworking nurses, and they can not be in several places at once when multiple patients all need assistance. A debate is raging over what the maximum number of patients per nurse should be, and a bill is being created to increase the number of working nurses and create procedures for hospitals. This bill will also put a stronger emphasis on communication between hospital management and health care institutions. Another really wonderful aspect of this bill is that the state government will provide loan repayments and financial aid to nurses who go to work in their state. Hopefully, with a greater amount of nurses readily available, the patient care will be back up to standards as it should have always been.
