Journal Entry #5 – Skills Profiler Report

Not being able to finish all the assessments on the same day because of lack of time I decided to do the following next to assignments on the following day I had learning the frameworks again. On October the fourth in between classes I started the skills profiler report. The third test had a scrolling aspect which was different from the previous two test. The test was simple since the assessment wanted me to self-score myself on where I was from basic to genius. Most of the questions I answered on a moderate scale although only a few of my questions somewhat distressed me on either my answers were accurate to myself. After the test, I was confused on how my scores were able to identify which job is best suited for myself until I found the career comparison tool.

For most of the questions, I answered moderate more or less and answer high on only a few questions. Upon looking at my scores I was confused on how my answers were relevant to basic, social, problem solving, technical, and resource management skill. Ignoring the categorizing process I realized that scored moderately well in all the skill categories but exceptional in my learning strategies. Following looking at my information I look under the toolbar named "Career Comparisons" and found how to find certain jobs to compare to my skills. After finding biologist, my ideal career, I found how my skill levels were being compared other jobs. The creators of the assessments must have surveyed many career fields and average their answers to compare the

My writing mostly follows prompts that I do not choose so I may not be as interested in what I am writing. This can cause my writing to seem boring and detached, which is good for a scientific research paper, but not for a more personal piece. I hope my writing could be interesting enough to keep a reader’s attention so this is something that I actively try to fix. Also, until this year, my writing had ever been seriously critiqued. I had always gotten good grades on my essays without many comments from professors so I assumed that I was a decent writer.…

That is the norm. If someone receives good news, they are expected to be happy. It is safe to say that even though society has set the norm on how things should be, most people are different. For example, based on my results from the test, there are somethings that I see do not fit into the norms. My neuroticism score is low.…

I didn’t quite agree with some of the top careers that I matched with such as Engineering & Architecture, and Healthcare Support. Based on the results of my personality tests and my interests I wouldn’t see myself working in one of these fields. The two career fields that I can see myself getting into are Business & Finance Operations and Management which I ranked 5th and 6th. I was fairly pleased with these results since the two careers I am going to school for were on top of my list. Some of my strengths that I considered myself having on my SWOT analysis included ability to quickly solve problems and my ability to follow directions and learn quickly.…

However, I failed the essay due to not fully understanding how to utilize the Toulmin method. I made revisions and believed I finally understood it, but I got a lower grade than the first grading. I still do not really understand the Toulmin method but it allowed me to think more carefully of the prompt and how to go about on my future essays. Next was the pirate essay where we had to watch and analyze a documentary. Again, I thought I did the essay correctly because I covered all the points stated in the prompt, but I failed the essay.…

Although my results were favorable telling me that I have “better than most” resilience their way of assessing me was rather different. To test for intelligence this test asked you a series of questions and you had to respond with a numerical number 1-5 and upon your answers they would tally your scores up. This was rather questionable to me because you could respond with a neutral agreement of 3, thus not really giving a definite answer. Regardless, I found that my resilience response was somewhat accurate. My results were “resilient than most” and my past experiences in life have proven that I do bounce back from difficult situations.…

I never once wrote one of those until this year and if you were to ask me what a definition essay was, I would think that you would use vocab terms. Looking over all the work that I have done in the class I did notice that my skills with detail have gotten better along with creating better introductions to stories. Going back to what I said previously in this portfolio, in one of my essays I forgot to change the title. Changing the title was probably the simplest mistakes I made this year. One thing that seems to be consistently average or poor is my grammar.…

I talked about my research about framing and connected it to what I found but other than that the conversation fell flat. I’m still unsure as to how to improve that. I could not find many connections but that was probably because I did not do my own research well enough. I believe that my argument was persuasive and interesting. In my proposal and the start of my focused data analysis I showed the audience why they should care about Planned Parenthood.…

Usually, I am a hierarchic person. I like to organize my to-do list by what is most important and what needs to be done first. Sometimes, but rarely, I get so focused on one goal and ignore everything else. I think this is why I scored "low middle" for the monarchic style, but because this rarely happens, I did not score any higher on it. I am very organized.…

    Staying In School Analysis

Staying in school until around 5:30pm was always the norm for me. But it wasn't because I was in any varsity teams or advanced classes. Instead, it was because I was behind on the lesson and I was recommended by my math teacher to attend remedial classes during my first and second year. I had a carefree, light-hearted, "bahala na si Batman" kind of attitude towards my academics and I couldn't really join any varsity teams even if I wanted to because of it. My attitude and academics didn't change by much in my sophomore year.…

To put it frank it was a good feeling and amusing when I passed math every year in high school because I really didn’t pay too much attention or even focus as much as I should have at certain times, since I wanted to be stubborn and ignorant. There were times where I would just decide I didn’t want to learn the lessons because they were either being taught difficultly, lack of total interest and or it didn’t seem to be useful in my life for what I planned on doing. Looking back now I can admit I was wrong for having that kind of mind set which I will be going more into depth in another paragraph about the usefulness of math. It was also during that time that I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses. For instance, one of my biggest weaknesses is my comprehension but thanks to tutoring and hard work I was able to improve myself to the point where I know what needs to be done to make sure I completely understand the problem and what it is asking.…
