The goal of a principal is to guide the school along the lines of a common purpose, vision, and mission. The concept is that once a purpose, mission, and vision has been established, the principal will need to get the schools whole community behind it and working towards it. A lot of articles read on the topic also state that is vision should be one that is nonnegotiable for the principal. The simplest way to overcome a lot of these barriers is through communication. All stakeholders in a school system need have open lines of communication and be a part of the constant flow and exchange of information. This will break down the barriers that can be put into place when there is a lack of information. Right now, I think about all the changes going on to Wahlert as we prepare for renovations to start on January 18th. There is a moving of 10 classrooms, asbestos removal, and the closing of an entire wing involving 3 floors. All the stakeholders could be against any component of the move and its effect on education. However, our Chief Administrator and principal have kept constant communications going out to parents, students, and staff which has made this transition and has filled the air with excitement. For students, communication also means that the goals of the school need to be articulated to the students. This can lead to an academic environment where the students are becoming part of the goal setting for testing and other academic outcomes. Clear and consistent forms of communication whether it be newsletters or emails keep communication flowing and stakeholders remain informed as the school moves to a new vision or mission. Communication will also help with accountability as all those involved will be on the same page as far as the vision and mission
