Way back in the 6th grade, I didn't have many friends. We all have those awkward years in our lives, and this was most definitely the beginning of mine. While sitting reading a book in the hallway of the Alton, Middle School before school a girl came by. This girl stopped, looked at what I was reading, and said, "Hey I just finished reading that book it's really good!" This small gesture, was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Today I would like to share with you someone who has made a huge influence in my life, my best friend, Josie Maasdam. Because of Josie's ability to be honest, trustworthy, and reliable I would like to thank her for being a great friend to me. Josie's honesty is the first thing that came to me when I began writing this speech. Since the beginning of our friendship up till this point she has always been honest with me. Whether my clothes don't match, or if I am not being a good person, she is always honest to call me out. She is also honest with me about how she feels on certain topics. Which brings me to my next point about Josie's trustworthiness. …show more content…
Having someone to be able to talk to about these problems is nice. Josie is my person. It could be one in the morning, and I have a problem and she is the first person I shoot a text to, and she's there as soon as she can. I can remember multiple different times where I went over to her house, and talked about all of my problems and she listened to me rant on and on. The best part about this is that I can trust her to keep all my secrets. She is also very trustworthy with others, not just me. She always puts other before her, and this is a gift that really shows through when I am with her. Which brings me to my last

Life is full of people that help shape and mold you into the person you become. Maybe it's a parent, grandparent, teacher, or maybe even a friend. For me at least, it's my older sister, Amber Oertel. Amber has been with me as long as I can remember, granted she would have rather had mom and dad bring home a puppy instead of me, I still like to think she still likes me. She has been with me through some of the greatest losses in both of our lives, she has also been the source of some of my greatest adventures, but most of all, she has been an important role model in my life.…

I met her a few years ago at a church service project at a local elementary school soccer day camp. Jordan and I were sent about a half hour before it was time to eat, to get the kids the lunch we had made for them, plus ten full drink coolers, plates napkins, and cups.…

Whether that be a family member teaching a little one kindness, or even on a bigger scale Martin Luther King Jr. leading a revolution to the acceptance of people with different colored skin. Even bad people can make a change for the good, like a school shooter who makes schools realize they need a plan in place for an attack on their students. One person can change the way others think entirely and can impact their lives in a major way. Lori Ann Heyden, my grandmother, had made a huge impact in my life.…
