In Merle Temple’s (2018), A Ghostly Shade of Pale, the book tells the story of Temple’s career as an undercover Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agent during the 1970s at the height of the war on drugs. Although the names and some of the places have been changed to protect the identities of former agents and criminals, this book has a lot of strengths and weaknesses. Some of the most notable strengths are the settings or locations, because it is based in Mississippi, which for Mississippi natives, grabs their attention and allows them to relate more to the book. Another strength lies in Temple’s ability to use very vivid imagery in descriptions of places.…

Today is going to be just like any other day, I sketched in my morning journal. The morning Baltimore sun shone past the skyscrapers of downtown, and light protruded through the silk blinds that covered half of the picture window in my room. I rose up from my queen bed. The sheets had become untucked and the comforter lay halfway off the edge. My back rested against the mahogany headboard with my head fitting perfectly between two of the wooden posts.…

In America, there are many definitions to what being an American means. Americans are stereotyped as “pigs” or “imbecile” by others in foreign countries, but actually Americans are innovative/creative and are entrepreneurs as related by the iconic image of Iwo Jima (which shows the movement from teamwork and pushing towards a common goal). America is a hard-working “Land of Opportunity” which leads to innovation and progression in technology. Being innovative means to create something new or bring a…
