Joshua Chamberlain's Persuasive Speech

Have you ever heard Joshua Chamberlain's persuasive speech to convince 120 mutineers to join the cause of freedom? In the movie Gettysburg and the book Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, Chamberlain was given 120 men to watch over and to care for. They were mutineers. Joshua Chamberlain convinced 114 men of the 120 to join his regiment. After analyzing Joshua Chamberlain's speech, readers will come to a conclusion that his speech if very powerful.
Josh Chamberlain has a countless number of character traits found throughout his speech. One of these traits is responsible, An example from the text is. “I’ve been ordered to take you men with me”(shaara 8). Another character trait is fair, The author says in the text, “I’ll do what I can to ensure you a fair trial”(shaara 8). The last trait is considerate, The text states “I’m told If you (laughs quietly) don’t come I can't shoot you. Well, you know I

One of these ways is in the movie you can hear his emotion and voice breaks. An example from the movie is when Chamberlain was talking and he said We have seen men die before his voice cracked and broke. But in the book you can't not tell if his voice would have broke. Another example is serious. Chamberlain said in the movie gentlemen, I think if we lose this fight we lose the war, you could tell he was serious. In the book you couldn't tell if he was being serious or sarcastic. The third reason is disgust. The last example from the movie is when josh was talking to the mutineers, he said I’m told I can shoot you if you don’t come with me his voice sounded disgusted like he hated he could shoot them. In the book you can't understand whether he wants to shoot them or not. The film is a lot better because it tells us more about who he is as a person and how he felt about the things he said. It makes it easy for people to understand his speech better than just reading
