Gene Weingarten asked Joshua Bell to perform in a subway station for a social experiment. There were five musical works mentioned in the article.

This concerto has three movements. It starts off slowly, but ends energetically. The second musical work that was mentioned was "Chaconne" from Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 2 in D Minor. The article stated that this is the first piece that Bell played in the experiment. Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Minor has five movements, “Chaconne” being the last movement. Weingarten used Bell’s statement to describe this piece. Bell mentioned this musical work as "not just one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, but one of the greatest achievements of any man in history. It's a spiritually powerful piece, emotionally powerful, structurally perfect…” The third musical work that was mentioned was Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria. This is one of my favorite music. It is about the adoration of the Virgin Mary. There’s an undescribable feeling attached to this piece. It lifts you up from where you are right now. The fourth musical work that was mentioned was classical composer Manuel Ponce’s Estrellita, a ballad, telling a story about a female’s hidden love to a man. The last musical work that was mentioned was a Bach Gavotte. The article described this piece as a jolly and joyfull lyrical dance. In addition, several composers were mentioned in the

    Who Is Bach's Sei Solo?

Johann Sebastian BACH’s Sei Solo – a violino senza Basso accompagnato (pub. 1720) was composed during a period of sudden interest in polyphonic violin writing. Some of the first surviving works of its kind include Heinrich Ignatz Franz Biber’s Passacaglia for solo violin (c. 1676) as well as several collections of solo violin works by Johann Paul von Westhoff. Among Bach’s own works, there is also the 6 suites à Violoncello solo, even though the penmanship of the cello suites have come under scholarly scrutiny. Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 sets off with a fairly conventional Baroque four-dance suite of Allemande – Corrente – Sarabanda – Giga. Unlike his other partitas, there are no doubles following these first four movements,…

This fifth concerto is comprised of woodwinds featuring the flute, string instruments featuring the violin, and of course the prized harpsichord. This piece does something groundbreaking. It is the only one of the six pieces to have any solo material given to the harpsichord . In this time, Bach was known for using the Harpsichord, but not in this capacity. Throughout the piece, it seems to hold everything together as the one constant stringing together other instruments.…

The courante is an example of the dance that could have served equally well as a prelude or a sonata movement. Three times the treble makes a conspicuous climb to d: the first two times it is part of a dissonant chord and only the third time is consonant, when the two hands move in contrary motion to the outer limits of Bach’s keyboard compass at the close. The sarabande is of the trio type with numerous appoggiaturas,…

“Few musical works are as loved--and as often performed--as the six "Brandenburg" Concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach”(npr). The full title of the piece, by Johann Sebastian Bach, on autograph score is “Concerto 3zo a tre Violini, tre Viole, è tre Violoncelli col Basso per il Cembalo.” Bach wrote the piece in 1718, but its first publication was in 1851. This section of the six orchestral pieces composed by him is the only one with a more conservative musical design. This piece exemplifies the period that it’s from because it “…is the absolutely equal division of parts between the three groups of strings, sometimes combining to play the ripieno in unison and at other times, holding a varied and musical dialogue among themselves.…

Bach’s three sets of six suites for keyboard, titled Partitas, French Suites, and English Suites have caused specialists to fruitlessly comb each set for some sense of distinct national characteristics. It was the publishers, however, not Bach, who provided the titles and Bach’s original manuscripts are lost. The English Suites, or Suites pour les Anglois, for example, were published with this name after Bach’s death. The basic style of Baroque suites, including Bach’s instrumental suites, was essentially French.…
