Joseph never answered his question, he instead bolted for the door. Nothing else mattered to Joseph except for escaping the purgatory that his mind created. When Joseph finally reached the door he yanked it open with all the force that he could muster. He stumbled down the front steps and dashed down the walkway. The gazpacho soup downstairs would have to wait until later. It was not often that Eutropio would reject his wife's simple cooking, but there was an urgency in his eyes that told of trouble. Seeing this she'd approached the window beside him. • At first glance , it seems like Eighner wrote this article as a “how to” guide for people who wanted to dumpster dive, but as you read and reflect on his words… it becomes more obvious he is condemning society’s wastefulness and its materialistic desires, to the point where the scavenger feels sorry for the must-haves. “Between us are the rat-race millions who have confounded their selves with the objects they grasp… I am sorry for them” (Eighner 6). • He wants to share his experiences as a dumpster diver or “scavenger” to make people stop and think about their own desire to acquire and their wasteful habits.…

In the year 2017, most modern societies have ultimately adopted an ideology of overconsumption and consumerism. This adoption of overindulgence and extravagant spending is the focus of journalist James Hamblin’s profile, Living Simply in a Dumpster. In this article, Mr. Hamblin writes about Jeff Wilson, the dean of the Houston-Tillotson University, and his message about rejecting indulgence and returning to a practice of living in deliberation and ecological awareness. This idea is communicated and dramatized by both the journalist and the dean through a compelling use of ethos, logos, and kairos. James Hamblin and Jeff Wilson ultimately strengthen Wilson’s message about living deliberately by establishing themselves as credible, authoritative,…

Whisking Margaret’s unconscious body into my arms, I steadily began to inch my way towards the back door in escape. However, the task was daunting. Traveling to Margaret alone was one thing; although, traveling back, amidst the intensifying search of spiritual thieves, with a comatose woman’s arms dangling amongst the floor, and having to ensure that one did not accidently bump into a chair, thus calling all attention to ourselves, made the situation a bit more problematic. Nevertheless, I refused to allow such external factors to influence, or sway, my mission; and that was to liberate the angel who currently inhabited my arms. “What’s the hold up?…
