Joseph's Rivalry In The Book Of Genesis

Now, trust me when I tell you that I should know a thing or two about sibling rivalry. Coming from a family with five brothers where rivalry and revelry were many times in separable. We didn’t always get along with each other but we always did belong with each other. And boy, do I have stories I could tell, but I’m not quite sure what the ‘statute of limitations’ is on some of our shenanigans so it would probably be wiser to leave them out of print, especially since two of my brothers are currently serving as officers with the Ontario Provincial Police. One thing for sure is we never had the issues Joseph had with his brothers. Joseph was actually hated. Joseph goes on to explain his dream and his brothers decide it’s time to get rid of this trouble-making dreamer. There are many determinations one can make by the references found here in this portion of scripture. All the way through Genesis we read about human conflict. In fact, Genesis begins with numerous stories of fratricidal conduct: Cain kills Abel, Esau threatens Jacob, and here Joseph is nearly killed by his brothers. I appreciate the honesty of scripture. The word of God never hides the harsh realties of our fallen human condition. The bible seems to propose that in view of the fact that we are all brothers, it can be suggested that all murder is fratricide. Genesis also highlights redemptive sagas of forgiveness and reconciliation too. Even though it does not obviously appear that Joseph and his siblings made amends, the lessons can still be learned in this true life example of Joseph and his brothers, which prove that conflicts can be resolved, relationships can be restored and dreams can be
