Joseph's 'David In Blasphemy'

1. My character is Joseph he is David’s father and is against blasphemy’s these are some words to describe him. Cruel, Mean, Lazy, Irritable, Angry, Bossy, short tempered. All of these words describe Joseph very well because of his strong religious beliefs and beating his son David so he can understand the secret that David is hiding. Cruel, mean, irritable, angry and short tempered describes the way he treated his son after David found out of Sophie’s 6 toes which means she is a blasphemy. Lazy, foolish, Bossy and religious describes how he is the leader of a very religious group that believes blasphemies should not exist. These words are words I’d never describe Joseph as Ambitious, faithful, dependable, loyal, concerned and peaceful all words that don’t describe him because of his religious ways and how he can chose between life and death. A quote from the story could be page 51 “You know David …show more content…
His appearance would be closely dressed as a farmer so maybe overalls, boots, hat, etc. he is also a priest and lawyer. His strengths and weaknesses would be how faithful he is because he is the priest for the town, angry for the way he treats his son and other people, set in his ways because he believes blasphemy shouldn’t exist so if anyone doesn’t agree with him he will get angry. His feelings and behaviors towards other characters? He treats his son very poorly and doesn’t like anyone else with a different point of view. His personality in the beginning of the story? We was a pretty chill guy, he was a priest, lawyer and father he never liked blasphemy’s but that was his view and other than that had no other problems. What happens to his personality? Nothing changes but his attitude towards his son gets worse after he finds out David’s hiding a secret from him. My opinions towards joseph is that he is a horrible father and should never have been chosen to be the priest for his town because a man like joseph chooses between life or death for those born

We have all known someone we thought the worst of after first meeting them. Then, we change our minds about them after sharing some experiences with them. Raymond Carver used that paradigm in “Cathedral.” At first the Narrator embodies many of the negative traits associated with humanity, such as bigotry of what he does not understand, jealousy, and even perhaps a substance abuse problem. Yet, the more the reader travels through the story, the more the reader warms up to him.…

Some people say the book of Mice and Men should be banned in public schools, although I think the book should not be banned because it contains allusions, Characterization and Dialect. It helps the students have a better undestandment of all the things above by showing them examples. The examples it contains of Allusion, from poems to the book, which says, “The best laid schemes go often astray.” Meaning the best dreams, that you plan often don’t become true.…

“Repetition compulsion” (Potamianou 945) is utilized to alleviate the tensions produced by trauma. However, the process results in two paradoxes that make it difficult for the mind to achieve alleviation from trauma (Potamianou 946). The first paradox is the “presence of what is absent” (Potamianou 947), which develops when traumatic experiences are kept outside David’s memory while his psychic apparatus is exposed to compulsive repetitions of Dulcie (Potamianou 947). She is the unspeakable figure of David’s story because she is a woman who was shamefully violated (Baiada 38). The after-effects of this trauma leave the mind paralyzed, making it deficient in its ability to elaborate on the subject (Potamianou 946).…

The Minister’s Black Veil is a tale by Nathaniel Hawthorne that touches base with the troubled times of having to hide one’s secrets behind a simple, yet deeply interpreted black veil. Hawthorne’s tale is strong in characterization and setting, thus leading to the tone-- seclusion. Characters are simply humans molded to another’s preference.
