A lot of people want to blame the parents of the offenders, asking “what did you turn your child into?” 36% of serial killers were physically abused, 26% were sexually abused, and 50% were psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). Many people have logically come to the conclusion that just because someone is abused, it does not mean that they will become a serial killer; or even a murderer; which is true. In the general population (people who have never committed murder) only 6% are physically abused, 3% are sexually abused, and 2% are psychologically abused (Mitchell and Aamodt 45). The dramatic difference of abuse frequency between people who are serial killers and people who are not seems evident enough to support that serial killers are created.…

Jeffrey Dahmer, the infamous serial killer, was born on May 21, 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, although he grew up in Ohio. His childhood was not anything too out of the ordinary, except for a few incidents; one of which was him being molested at the age of eight. Dahmer grew up in a house with his father, mother and his brother, Lionel Dahmer, Joyce Dahmer and David Dahmer, listed accordingly. When he turned ten, Dahmer was supposedly experimenting with dead animals, although his parents just took it as something that boys do. If they had noticed something was wrong at this time in his life and had gotten him the help that he needed, he might not have committed all of those murders.…

Dahmer had tried to preserve the body parts as a type of trophy, but also to satisfy his cannibalistic cravings. His last way of killing was done in the same way as above, luring people to his house with the promise of money in exchange for pictures, but this time he tried to turn his victims into a submissive puppet. On April 7, nineteen year-old Errol Lindsey was the next person to fall into Dahmer’s hands. The difference between Lindsey and Dahmer’s other victims was that Lindsey was straight.…

Robert C. Hansen is known as Alaska’s most prolific serial killer. His father, Christian, was a baker by trade and operated his own bakery in their small town (Greig, 2012). Serial killers are like the actual Boogey-Man; hiding under the bed or lurking in the shadows is exactly what one would think they would do. However, some serial killers build up a camouflage and interact with others without any gut-feelings or blaring signs of what is actually going on in their head. John Wayne Gacy is the perfect example of this type of killer. Born on March 17, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, John Wayne Gacy faced an abusive childhood and conflict over his sexuality (Vronsky 92). Growing up, Gacy was subjected to abuse from his drunken father who would discipline the Gacy children with a razor strap; because showing emotion during the beatings fueled the father’s rage, Gacy learned to control his emotions and not cry.…
