McCarthyism was named after a Wisconsin Senator, Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy claimed that there was a certain number of communist that had betrayed the state department. After being reelected for senator in 1952 McCarthy continued his search for those communist. For two years he searched through government departments and questioned witnesses of their communist affiliations. McCarthy never seemed to find anyone to blame, but his accusations ended up in many people losing their jobs. McCarthyism reached its breaking point
