Joseph McCarthy was a U.S. senator from Wisconsin. He intended to uncover and suppress domestic communists during the 1950s. The people he accused did not have many options as to what would happen to them. If they refused to testify, they would be in danger of losing all they had. In turn, they could align with McCarthy and accuse friends and friends of being communist, just as McCarthy did. Interim, the Federal Bureau of Investigation observed the citizens' actions to find a reasonable excuse for Joseph’s behavior. “In 1953 Senator McCarthy was made chairman of the Senate Committee on Government Operations, which included the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations” (Barnes). The authorization was malleable to the sufficient amount to grant McCarthy access to use it for his own reasons. After Joseph passed away, his physical self was gone, but McCarthyism took abundantly longer. Generally, the agitation of communism continued in many ways. Joseph McCarthy was very good at convincing Americans to agree with him and do as he said. In an instant, he would have the community following his every step. He was set on the communist being beyond atrocious. Eventually, his constant compelling convinced the Americans to follow his footsteps.
