A piece of work I enjoyed was Joseph Mallard William Turners "Snow Storm-Steam-Boat off a harbour's mouth" in 1842. I feel this piece encompassed what the romanticism era was all about. According to scholars the romanticism style is hard to define. We know for the most part it was a reaction against the enlightenment. We know that the enlightenment was all about realism and rationalism, so the romanticism is more about freedom of expression. It is also important to note that despite its name romanticism has nothing to do with romance. In Turner's piece we see a boat on what appears to be rough waters.
