Joseph Campbell's Report

Improved Essays
The views presented by Joseph Campbell have challenged me at the very core of who I am. I was raised in Christian home, attended Christian schools my whole life, and today I am a leader at my church, Champion Life in Palm Desert, CA. I am by no means a perfect Christian, nor can a recite a thousand bible verses to you but I do believe in the word of God and have my entire life. However, I can tell you that when I read this book, with an open mind, it did challenge my belief system and consequently has caused me to do some serious soul searching lately. For example, I do wonder how there could be so many similarities in the resurrection myths across so many different religions, how could these people who never communicated come up with myths

Hindered the Struggle to End FGM: International efforts to eradicate FGM, are often done with the intention of helping to abolish this harmful practice, but have instead hindered the struggle to end FGM. FGM gained international attention after Fran Hosken’s 1979 report, however this report created a victim-savior dichotomy that hindered the struggle to end FGM. Within Hosken’s report the women in communities that practiced FGM were characterized as ignorant or helpless (Wade, 2009,1). In her report she claimed the victims of FGM were “wholly ignorant of biology and unconscious of their own oppression” (Shannon,2012,290). This characterization of the people who practiced FGM was intolerant and insensitive (Lane & Rubinstein, 1996,35).…

Stephen G. Potts, author, writes his article “Looking for the Exit Door: Killing and Caring in Modern Medicine” to show his readers the nine consequences that he believes will arise if euthanasia is institutionalized, or legal, in the United States. Potts’ style of writing is different most other philosophical writers in the sense that he backs up his opinion on euthanasia by explaining his nine consequences and further elaborating them by examining scenarios that are applicable to the real world. From reading Potts’ article it is easy to understand from a legality standpoint Potts believes that his nine bad consequences are bad enough to outweigh any good that may come from euthanasia, so it should not be institutionalized. Before reading this article I was a firm believer that euthanasia should absolutely be institutionalized, however, after reading and dissecting all of Potts’ many good points I began to question whether or not euthanasia really is beneficial. After careful thought and consideration, I would have to disagree with Potts’ simply because his consequences are too easily argued and even potentially pointless.…

Although Christianity continues to be the most popular religion, scholars came together in a Seminar, seeking to find the provable truth, which leads to unpopular conclusions. Throughout the article entitled, The Gospel Truth? by David Van Biema, the question of Jesus and the two lenses through which we see him, faith and history, are explored, conclusions are made, and reactions are instant. Instead of believing by faith and tradition, the Jesus Seminar is an attempt to identify…
