When the Jews would arrive at Auschwitz they went through the selection process. For many doctors and SS officers the selection process was horrible. Some could only do it drunk, but Mengele did it with no problem and would even volunteer to take people’s shifts (The Cruelest Nazi Doctor). Mengele enjoyed his job, especially during the selection process when he was looking for twins, dwarves and people with special hereditary (Stockton). When he would find those people it brought him joy and would even make him smile. Parents would try hiding their children if they had twins or had something else that was special. Sometimes people would try to run but it resulted in them being shot right away. The people that were chosen to have experiments done were kept in a special place. The children were sent to the pit that didn’t get selected for experiments, sent to the gas chambers, or chosen to work. These children filled up 10 dump trucks (The Cruelest Nazi Doctor). When they raised the truck-bed over the firey pit, children were screaming and trying to get away. When a child would try to climb out and run, an officer would push them back in with a stick (The Cruelest Nazi Doctor). All of these children died from being burned
