Jorge Villalobos

After reading every essay in the booklet, I’d have to say that Jorge Villalobos’ essay stood out to me the most. The reason I chose it is because I was able to relate to him. I was able to learn a few things about him that I wouldn’t have been able to know just by looking at him.

By reading Jorge’s essay, I was able to learn about the relation he had with his mother. He and his mother butted heads at times but in the end, he knew that he will always be his mom’s baby boy and both will always love each other no matter what. I was able to relate to that a lot. There are many times when my parents and I don’t see eye to eye. Towards to end of high school, when receiving all the college rejection letters, my parents began to ask when I would be getting a job to pay rent. Both of my parents have always been very busy people and worrying about the which direction I was a heading towards after high school brought more stress upon them. Jorge had the same situation going on. My favorite thing about his essay is when says that he prioritizes giving back to his mom which I really admire about him. That is my favorite thing

He knows what he wants. He has something to motivate him to do great. With that motivation. I’m sure he will use it to push him to keep fighting through all the struggle college drops upon us. In the part of his essay when his mom tells him to get a job because she thought he wasn’t going to college , Jorge told his mom that he might have a chance to get in through EOP. That to me was admirable because he kept a positive mindset despite the times when his mother didn’t. I think that will also get him far throughout college career because it’s all about being positive and confident that it’s not the end of the world during the times when we our at our lowest. Sure enough, after remaining positive, he proved his mother right and made her

In the article "In taking on Jorge Ramos, Donald Trump May Have Tussled with the Wrong Media Star" by Christine Mai-Duc of the Los Angeles times, the author discusses the validity of Jorge Ramos as an influence on the Latino voting power after a press conference where Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told Univision anchor Jorge Ramos to "go back to Univision" and the anchor was escorted out. The author uses logos, ethos, and pathos to argue her position on immigration and the value of the Latino population in America involved in politics. “One out of every four children in the United States is an immigrant or the U.S.-born child of immigrants and many schools are ill-equipped to meet their needs (Tamer, 2014)”. To better prepare me to meet the needs of immigrant students I chose to read Enrique’s journey by Sonia Nazario. This book caught my attention because I know very little about immigration and reading this book will allow me to gain a better understanding of what it is like to come from a different country into the United States. I have only heard negative things about immigration. Reading this book I want to gain a new perspective on immigration and get an idea of what immigrants go through as they assimilate in a new environment.…

For me personal I would choose the essay because it delivers the author's message. The main message in this story is survival requires courage, strength, and cunning. This is a true story about what happened to Andrew Lam and his life in the refugee camps. In the essay Andrew says “When I was eleven, about your age, I too fled from my homeland with my mother and sister and grandmother when the communist tanks came rolling into Saigon, Vietnam. We ended up in a refugee camp in Guam.”…

Yet, even after years passed, Rodriguez comprehends that an uncertainty remains when he describes that he is “bright enough to have moved from his past, yet unable to feel easy, a part of a community of academics” (583). The choice is intentional, but his emotions conflicts with his main goal, and Rodriguez dynamically moves away from his past, but he cannot, and does not want, to ignore his feelings any further. Then, a noticeable shift from third to first person occurs, which indicates that Rodriguez is finally harmonizing the two personas by accepting the two identities as one, as his own identity. During the latest stage of his education, he explains: “I wanted something—I couldn't say exactly what. I told myself that I wanted a more passionate life.…
