Jonny Cade: The Perfect Family Life

Decent Essays
Jonny Cade was a good kid, who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. I didn’t see Jonny as a greaser, I saw him a friend. He was a kind-hearted boy who I will never forget. I met Jonny in the third grade, he would come over to my house and we would play football. Jonny never really wanted to be at home. He didn’t have the perfect family life; I think that’s why he ended turning to the greasers. Jonny spend most of life looking for acceptance, because his family life was not that great, he found his own family in the greasers. The greasers looked out for Jonny, and made sure he was taken care of, and in his last day Jonny knew that he had a family that accepted and loved him.

In Chris McCandless’s family, one can clearly see the authoritarian family dynamic at work. For instance, when Chris tells his parents that he does not want to go to college, Walt says how “that put . . . [Billie and him] into kind of a tizzy” because “both [of them] come from blue collar families,” so “ a college degree [was] something [they didn’t] take lightly” (Krakauer 114). Chris’s father argues that “[he] and Billie worked hard to be able to afford to send [their] kids to good schools” (Krakauer 114). Walt and Billie have such set notions on what the path to success and happiness is that they impose this on Chris by making him go to a university even though this is not what he wants to do.…

In the book, “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, I think “Stay Gold” means don't be the rest and stand out. I also think that “Stay Gold” means that don't be a follower, and its okay to be you than to be someone that people think of you. Just because others labeled you as something, doesn’t mean that’s how you should act. Just like PonyBoy, even though he is a Greaser, he can still act whatever way he wants to be, and does not have to be a typical gang member or troublemaker that everyone thinks that's how Greaser act. It also kind of relates to their social class, just how everyone thinks the Socs are perfect, bullies, rich, etc.…

The two are best friends then the rival gang shows up, everything then goes downhill from there. The author S.E Hinton provides a great motivational, and exciting story about a group of boys, in particular I chose Pony Boy and Johnny who are both best friends, one night something happens between the ‘’greasers’’ and the ‘’socs’’ which causes the two to only have themselves and their friends aka the ‘’greasers’’. Johnny’s parents doesn’t care about him, and Pony’s parents both died.…

Several days before the start of our last year in high school, my neighbor and I divided our time between hunting and surfing to end our summer. I really just wanted to go to the beach, but Johnny refused to give up the precious narrow window of time between the start of deer season and the start of the school year. One day, he came into our house uninvited. He charged into my room with a rifle in his hands to wake me up at five in the morning to sit in the deer stand with him that we had set up in the deep, swampy woods behind our houses. This was a normal occurrence of his, seeing as nobody locked their doors in this little hicktown, especially not my mother.…

Walter Annenberg once said “ Adversity tests us from time to time and it's inevitable that the testing continues during life”. We all face adversity throughout our lives. Whether we let adversity promote us or devastate us remains unforeseen until the adversity occurs. After reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, I found out that Ponyboy, the main character from The Outsiders, and I struggle with the same adversity. Unlike others we let it promote us, not devastate us.…

Honor Amongst Criminals Hoodlums may commit crimes and do bad deeds but is there still honor among the lawless? In The Outsiders by S.E. One of my middle brothers, Lucas Wheeler, was always the troublemaker of the family. Ever since the day my father left my mother, he has made my mom’s life a living hell at times. He was by far the closest to my biological father, so the day that he left was not easy for Lucas. He used to spit at my mom when he was mad at her and said “how do you like that?” My mother would have to hold him down while he threw a temper tantrum and when he was done, he would cry and say “I just want my dad”.…
