The district attorney’s office was trying to stay on the good side of the Ramsey’s to maintain a good image with Pete Hofstrom as the main man and the police department wanted to move the case forward and obtain records that could potentially provide some answers to fill in the blanks. The Ramsey’s were not willing to speak to the authorities unless it was on their own terms. The family immediately sought legal advice after JonBenét’s body was found which many found rather suspicious. Officers and investigators needed to be more aggressive with the Ramsey’s in the early hours of the investigation but they did not do so. The Ramsey's corresponded to the authorities through their legal team and often made requests that shouldn’t have been honored if the correct procedure was followed. On page 59 in JONBENÉT it is stated that “ Hofstrom further advised that the Ramsey attorneys wanted to review all case information before allowing cops access to their clients.” Any information the Ramsey’s wanted, they were handed. Nearly 21 years later, the case hasn’t moved much farther than it did when the case was fresh. This case changed the game for crime scene investigation, serving as a guide of what not to do.
