Our big blue world is dying and we are the cause. Human beings are wasteful creatures: people overstock their fridge with food that they will just toss out because it was left in their too long, some countries ( the USA) won’t invest into renewable energy because they are afraid of losing their oily money, then we make things that are more harmful than good like Whole Foods already peeled organic oranges that come in a decent size clear plastic container that cost about six dollars. Humans take from the earth and every day we use up more and more natural resources. And sooner rather than later we are going to fight with each other over water, space and may be even clean air. So just like Jonathan Swift, author of the essay, A Modest Proposal, …show more content…
Well here is an easy solution people need to get a license before they are allowed to have children. To gain a license you must make enough money to care for the child, take a basic parenting course, have enough time to spend with the baby and a thorough background test. To make sure no child grows up in poverty you must make at bare minimum forty- five thousand and over to take care of a child. This is just a project because the cost of living is different from state to state. The basic parenting course will be ran by both a child psychiatrists, pediatricians and any licensed parent who volunteers. The course will teach the basics of what to do when ( insert horrible thing) happens, who to call and the do and don’ts of child rearing. This is to give the parents or parent a little know how, so they are not going in blind. (Yes, just like the movies.) Once a year on some random day probably on a weekend, all crimes all over the world will be legal for the next twelve hours but there needs to be a couple of rules put in place so no with nuke codes destroys the world. Rule number uno; You can not purge on someone’s private property where they are living. If a person is buying a house tax on that piece of land you can’t purge it. That means you can’t go to Sally’s house and drag her out by her hair, steal from her house or do anything illegal on her property but if you have a rocket launcher you can blow up her house while standing in the streets. Second rule; No! crimes are allowed to be committed against anyone younger than 20. That includes any zygote or fetus in the womb. So if Sally had kids that live in her house you can’t kill them along with her. The kids deserve a right to live for awhile after passing all of the physical and mental exams. Last, no country can commit a crime against another country without going through the normal due processes and world leaders are not allowed to be involved with the purge. So, the US can’t send every drone it has to Iraq, just because. All crimes must be handled within a country 's

In 1729, Jonathan Swift wrote, “A Modest Proposal”, a satirical proposition, in response to the more modest but equally ridiculous proposals that had previously been sincerely proposed by others. “A Modest Proposal” was meant to criticize the Irish people, mainly the upper class, for their logical but callous approach to the poor. While poverty appears to be the obvious reason for his motivations, it seems he is also satirizing the current attitudes and viewpoints of the wealthy Irish citizens. He is able to use a combination of a reason-based approach and set a tone of humor and slight disgust to appeal to the patriots, the religious, the rich, the commoners, and the beggars of Ireland. Swift keeps the tone of the paper formal and logical,…

Also, he states that he is not bent on his real ideas alone to fix the problem. Therefore, he says if there are any better ideas, that others should do it. He did not refute the opposing claims to leave room for those who may have better ideas than Swift and therefore, he is not so bent on his ideas. The weakness in Swift’s argument is that it does not account for how the people would feel about helping the poor. They may not feel the need to do anything for the poor; such as feeding them or giving them food.…

1.The proposer or the Speaker of Jonathan Swift: A Modest Proposal, appears to be the kind of person that is very sober and serious, and who I imagine to be very monotone. He explains all of the information very thoroughly and works hard to explain his reasoning. He sort of seems to deviate around the topics whilst explaining his logic. He displays intellect while narrating A Modest Proposal. In my opinion, he seems to really know how to make a great argument.…

In the distant future, mankind will one day be able to create a digital restoration point. A place where the minds of those past, present, and future will be able to live in a utopian like world where they will be able to continue to grow and flourish, even if the physical world is no longer habitable. In this digital restoration point, magnificent minds that belonged to Barack Obama, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Oprah, and many more will be able to converse with one another to discuss what was once was, what will be, and what is present. In the restoration point, Jonathan Swift, the author of “A Modest Proposal”, and Plato, father of “The Allegory of The Cave,” would be sitting across from…

Freedom of speech is an important human right that should be respected. But many authors have been stripped from this right throughout history. In the 17h century, authors were exiled from their home for critiquing their leaders and their behavior but also for criticizing the behavior of the society itself. This brought many writers to write satire and irony to conceal their critiques in a comical way. A great work of satire in the 17th century is called "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift.…

Swift had the ultimate solution to dissolve poverty, hardship, and financial burdens for the people of Ireland. His plan was quite simple. Fatten, sell, and devour the young. Although Jonathan Swift’s writings were misinterpreted and found controversial “I do therefore humbly offer it to public consideration…that the remaining hundred thousand may at a year old be offered in sale… (233), it was this type of irony or indirect contradiction that he obviously felt was needed to capture his reader’s attention.…

Jonathan Swift wrote a satirical proposal to poke fun at society. I think this work is interesting because Swift chose a very extreme subject to get a metaphorical point across. In this proposal Swift has rationalized eating babies and made it seem as if it was a sincere proposition. The essay is very convincing, and I have the feeling that someone of low intelligence would take this proposition into consideration. Jonathan Swift’s intentions were to raise awareness of the unfair treatment of the Irish and prejudice attitudes toward lower class or homeless citizens.…

Literature has the amazing ability to convey a culture in different ways. Through the development of Irish culture, literature was able to follow closely behind. Leading this was Jonathan Swift and Antoine Raftery and even though both were widely known, there is a difference in their works and how they influenced authors like W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory. In order to properly reflect on these differences it is necessary to first provide the respected backgrounds of these authors. To begin, Jonathan Swift, a Dublin born Dean of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, raised by two Protestant parents was the one of the first recognized authors to bring fourth questions on English rule in Ireland.…

Sometimes humans don’t stop and look their surrounding, they don’t appreciate all that this world offers us. We often take for granted what was given to us, and we forget to take care of it. Human activity has been mostly the number one responsible for the changes in our climate and our ecosystem. Some of the human activities such as the cuts of trees, water pollution, fossil fuels burning and the amount of trash people generate a day are direct threats to our environments. The amount of trash people generate a day for example is a serious threat to our planet, and it seems to be the least of concern to some.…

Adventures are special because they involve extraordinary challenges and risks. They involve situations and settings that are outside the normal frame of existence that probe the boundaries of human effort. They explore the unknown, the exotic, and the misunderstood. Adventures are one of the most common subjects in oral story telling – they have always fascinated people and form the basis for some of our earliest literature. The meaning of “adventure” has evolved through time.…

Earth is the only home for the human race, and since the beginning of mankind, people have continually consumed and destroyed its natural resources. Due to the industrial revolution in the 18th century, the world’s resources began to decline, and from then on, they have been rapidly decreasing. People do not seem to care much about the Earth until problems arise. The planet is in a current state of exhaustion from humankind’s activities. Without awareness of the consequences of all human ventures, there is a possibility that resources will become obsolete for current and/or future populations.…
