When Jonas was first figuring out that there was a past and that people actually had memory’s, he was astounded. In the earlier parts of the book, Jonas’s family shares their feelings at the dinner table. “Who wants to be the first tonight, for feeling?” (4 Lowry) I think the author did this to add the detail that If they don’t share their feelings that they will forget that feeling and just keep feeling it without knowing that they already felt it.
