Jonas is the main character in “The Giver”, he lives in a “perfect” futuristic society. A society where everything is regulated, or controlled, so that nothing unexpected happens. Everything is assigned in life such as family units, jobs, etc. and all rules are followed. This community has a river near by, has similar house and buildings, and has an open land to “Elsewhere” but there are no colors, wars, hunger, true pain, emotions, animals, hills, not even cars, instead they ride bikes that were given to them at the age of nine.
Jonas was not assigned to a job like his peers, he was selected to be the “Receiver of Memory”. He obtained feelings, memories, colors, etc. from The Giver. Before Jonas and his peers were assigned to their jobs
