Could you imagine yourself living in an environment where you cannot feel, cannot see? Well, I couldn’t. In the book, The Giver, a dystopian novel there are two main characters, Jonas and The Giver. Jonas’s community is very unique and unusual. Jonas struggles to try to thrive at his job. Jonas meets The Giver because they both have the same job, the receiver of memories. There are multiple characters in the text. There are some main characters and some secondary characters. One of the main characters is Jonas. Jonas is the character who the book is revolving around. Jonas is a 12 year old boy who lives in a small, out of the ordinary neighborhood. Jonas’s community is abnormal to us reader’s because they have specific rules, the people inside cannot feel or have feelings. Jonas’s character traits are similar to the character traits which some of us have. Jonas’s character traits have changed tremendously throughout the course of the book. At the start of the book Jonas is a very curious, shy, imaginative and kind boy. Although, Jonas’s traits change towards the end of the book. Jonas turns into a very smart, independent, wise, sensitive and compassionate boy. In Jonas’s neighborhood they assign people jobs once they turn twelve or older. Jonas was picked to be the Receiver Of Memories. I think that because Jonas was picked to be the receiver of memories his traits changed the more he matured over time. One trait which Jonas had throughout the entire book was he gets frustrated very easily. When something doesn’t really go the way Jonas wants it to he gets really frustrated and angry.
