Jon Ritzheimer's Article: The Muslim Protest

Decent Essays
The first article talks about the Muslim Protest in Phoenix. Jon Ritzheimer wanted to make a rally and protest for an event that happened. Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi were to shoot a guard in a muslim rally. Jon says people can bring flags for the rally and apply their second amendment to be safe. And they cannot build mosques in America.

I personally think that it was just a rally. We just have to let them do it because nothing's going to happen. They just have to let them do it because it is the right of the first amendment. And he's planning to do the Cartoon thing, but if it offenses some people, I think he shouldn't do it. The second article talks about some people that don't like some things in the first amendment. In Daniel J. Boorstin’s book The Decline of Radicalism, lines are drawn as clarification to the audience in regards to semantics. Within his book, Boorstin asserts his thoughts in regards to the term “disagree” greatly differing from the term “dissent”, and as he explains, he provides comparisons these terms to their effect upon American democracy. While there is a great difference between dissent and disagreement, especially in terms of their application to the United States as it can be seen through the nation’s history, dissent is anything but a disease to democracy To start off, dissent and disagreement are two terms with two different meanings. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on how they feel about the Amendment. Some may agree while others may disagree. To those who disagree, think about this. You are walking out to your car one night after a long night of work, you’re not paying much attention to your surroundings because it’s nothing new to you. As you reach for your keys to unlock your vehicle, an unexpected male appears out of nowhere, and threatens your life.…

Others have the right not to be involved with what he is doing, and drawing the attention he did, was uncalled for, for the public. All they really want to do is draw attention to themselves and their protest. We just feed them when the news crews arrive, set up the cameras and "go live" with yet another flag burning protest. If the news didn't show up to put it on the front page and in front of everyone at dinner time, the protest would lose what they want the most. If they really, really wanted to protest America, they should burn copies of the…

After reading the first amendment, I felt that the first amendment had many loopholes that the forefathers didn’t imagine at the time, such as flag burning, pornography, solicitation, and tobacco advertising. While reading, I commemorated that the first amendment was created to protect the citizens of the U.S from the power of the federal government. However, according to paragraph 5 of the article, people are misinterpreting the spirit of the amendment to cover other forms of symbolic speech like flag burning and various forms of hate speech. Hate speech and flag burning should be rewritten into the first amendment because hate speech is targeting a group of people that wouldn’t necessarily appreciate it. Flag burning should also be covered…

Should a race or religion be feared for the fault of a small group of members? Should everyone be seen as a terrorist or a threat to the nation for what two through four people caused? How would you react if a religion or race wanted to build a mosque some two blocks from an event that took place? Well since the 9-11 attacks many Americans have struggled to build a healthy bond with the Islamic World. This was very visible during the idea of Park 51 located in New York city 2 blocks from where Ground Zero is located.…

This week’s current events discussion is about Anti-Trump protests that have spread throughout the country. The main point of all four articles is that Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election has spread protests across the nation starting on wednesday. On one hand I think they should be able to do whatever they think will help make a change. On the other hand I don’t agree on how far vandalizing and violence has gone. People should fight for what they believe in, personally I am anti-Trump, but I wouldn’t vandalize other people’s property or hurt anyone who supports him.…

Prior to the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in October of 2014, one officer requested a Taser to better diffuse the conditions. No officer near the scene had another non-lethal way to deal with the situation at hand (Give Cops). This is exact testament contributes greatly to the need for gun control laws–even in law enforcement. There are those who support gun control laws in the United States and there are those who oppose gun control laws. Gun control laws should not violate a citizen’s right to bear arms, however, these laws should exist in order to assure security for the country as a whole.…

This article focuses on a 29-year-old man, Raja’ee Fatihah who is an employee of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services who was denied access to a gun range because of his Muslim belief. Fatihah has filed a lawsuit, because of the business emphasizing Anti-Islamic belief as depicted with a sign posted on the business windows illustrating the establishment as a “Muslim-free” zone. Students from Fruita Monument High School, to the University in California have been suggesting the idea of banning flags on campus for being “offensive to other students. ”Although the word nationalism should be something the United States should be practicing, many high schools are protesting this idea since last summer of 2016. "They said we can't fly a Mexican flag, Confederate flag, American flag, any flag at all," said one of the senior protesters. "Whoever has a problem with our country’s flag really shouldn't be here, and really shouldn't say anything about it, because if they don't like our country why are they here?"…
