Jon Krakauer is a passionate climber and a journalist. He documents his experiences of the 1996 expedition and his feeling afterwards. Rob Hall is the co-founder and lead guide of Adventure Consultants. He has successfully climbed everest many times and is very loyal to his clients and sherpas. Scott Fisher is the founder and lead guide of Mountain Madness. A friend and competition to Rob Hall, he strives to gain greater respect as a guide. He is a very determined and unconventional climber. Doug Hanssen is a client of Rob Hall and is on his second attempt to climb everest. Not quite making it to the top on his first attempt, he becomes very determined during this expedition. Throughout the book he becomes Jon’s closest friend. Andy
