Joining a professional organization gives an individual the opportunity to network with others, attend conferences, and access to information about the changing field. Membership in a professional organization allows one to network, or meet people in which the relationship can be based solely on non-personal matters. Relationships can be formed in which discussions and learning about the profession are at the forefront. Networking may also allow for connections to others that can assist in new career opportunities. Professional organizations also grant individuals access to conferences and workshops, often at a discounted rate (Scholnik, 2013). Conference organizers frequently invite keynote speakers that are among the best in the profession.

They began connecting with educators across the world and its reach spans the globe. Its mission is to “empower learners to flourish in a connected world by cultivating a passionate professional learning community, linking educators and partners, leveraging knowledge and expertise, advocating for strategic policies, and continually improving learning and teaching” (International Society for Technology in Education, n.d., The ISTE Story).
