Johnson & Johnson ITLDP Information Session (9/22) I attend the Johnson & Johnson ITLDP information session located in the GITC building in room 3710. Johnson & Johnson employees came in to give students like myself information about the ITLDP program, IT co-ops, and internships. I attend this event because I am graduating at the end of December, so I just wanted to see if any opportunities were possibly for me with Johnson & Johnson. I learned a lot about the ITLDP program that the company offers. The program is a two year program that consists of rotating between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The program is designed to help the participants gain experience in technology, project management, and gain experience on the business side. I think …show more content…
This event was held so we students can learn how to be confident when meeting employers and to learn how to make a great professional first impression at the upcoming fall NJIT career fair. I previously had no idea what I would start and open up a conversation at the career fair with an employer and I have never attend a career fair in the past. I felt like going to this event could be beneficial to be for the career fair and for any job interviews in the future as well.
By attending this event, I learned how to act and what to say during the career fair while talking to companies. I learned that I should do some basic back research on the companies that interested me that were going to be at the upcoming career fair. I learned to have a few questions prepared to ask each recruiter and I learned to prepare a little speech about myself that focuses on what I can bring to a company. The main thing I learned however is to just be confident. Sounding and acting confident is important when talking to a recruiter from a company. You want to sound confident about your abilities and be able to show what unique qualities you can bring if you were hired as an employee for his/her company. Going to this event was everything that I expected. I gained a lot of knowledge of how to act and talk to employers who may be interested in hiring

The session was held by Cigital which is a software security firm. Cigital representatives came in to discuss and learn about potentially job and internship opportunities that company can offer. I originally heard about Cigital in the beginning of my senior capstone class. They were one of the companies that participated in the class by offering projects for the students of the class to complete for them. Before I had to pick a company to work with for the class, Cigital was one of my favorites one. I just like the idea of working on more of a security side of computing. However, I picked to work with a different company, but I really did enjoy Cigital and what they had to offer. When I heard about the meeting, I immediately wanted to

I attended a speaker event representing Land O’Lakes Inc. on October 25, 2016 from 6 PM to 7 PM in Blegen Hall, which was presented by Adam. To briefly discuss about the speaker’s education, he finished his undergraduate degree in History and is currently an MBA candidate at the Carlson School of Management with a particular focus on supply chain management. One of the reasons he decided to join the Carlson School of Management to pursue a graduate degree is to seek more career opportunities as he could not find a job within his field after his graduation from college. Besides his academic career, he has a five-year work experience in the Land O’Lakes. Inc. Based on his work experience in the Land O’Lakes, Adam talked about the overall company and its operations.…

For the informational interview I contacted a family friend Rebecca Gray Detling who is an executive sales manager with ICH Global LLC. I first just started off asking Rebecca on what she majored in college, how it prepared her for her job, what courses were the most valuable, and what class she wished she would have taken while in school. While in college Rebecca majored in physical therapy and had a minor in finance because she knew she wanted a future in the business field while helping out people in the medical field. Once out of college though she said that the most valuable class she took was a little of every class because with a career in the medical field, sales, and finance not one class is better than the other but a little of each class was extremely valuable.…

Although the Alpha Kappa Psi career fair was extremely overwhelming and stressful, it was beneficial to go as a freshman to understand what I can improve on at the next career fair. I understand the importance of many potential employers attending this event at this venue to maximize the opportunity for the students, however having so many people…

The only hospital setting experience I had was my IPPE II at Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell, SD. Therefore, I have never been to a hospital the size of Sanford, and I was excited to learn all about how a large hospital works. During my first work period, Dr. Johnson provided a tour of the main pharmacy in the basement of the hospital. I was amazed at the size of the robot that counts and organizes the medications…

Professor Roach offered several tips that I feel will help me stand out in a meet and greet situation. He made it clear that you never know whom you will meet and what type of deals could be made in these scenarios. As I start attending more of these events, I will definitely need to work on taking charge of conversations, finding connections with the individual, as well as how to sell my story and who I am. However, it is important to stay professional, be enthusiastic, and ask good questions. Paraphrasing and building off of the conversation you had is an important step in creating that solid relationship with the individual you are speaking with. This is something that does not come easy to me and that I will definitely need to work on in the near future. Professor Roach had us get to know the people around us and this was definitely an uncomfortable task for me. However, I learned a lot about the people that were sitting with me and feel like I was able to connect well with everyone. By practicing this, I feel like I will be able to learn to better express myself in a more unique way. By trying to go out of my way to meet people, I will be able to build my network as well as practice these skills that are key elements in connecting with employers and people at professional…

The first booth I visited was NSBE. I talked to Elizabeth Agwaife, who answered all of my questions. The purpose of NSBE is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community”. Though the B stands for black, it is open to all races. Yearly, they host the Feed the Culture BBQ, which was on September 9th. There’s free food, music, games, and more. It’s their version of a “welcome” event. They also host many corporate mixers, in which one can sit down with representatives from companies about jobs, internships, requirements, etc. Elizabeth told be that every single person in NSBE receives an internship. NSBE also periodically hosts their own job…

Therefore, the environment was very relaxing and friendly. All three of the company’s representatives, Jeff, Karen, and September, were very friendly and conversational. Although I left out much detail of the conversation, they were constantly laughing and telling short stories about their first internships and the many projects that I could be part off as an intern. Karen had her legs crossed and her hands were constantly playing with her hair, which I believe showed confidence and friendliness; she was not portraying any superiority and was talking to me with much respect and friendliness. Jeff and September looked comfortable and attentive when it was their turn to speak. I believe that the entire conversation was very easy going and friendly because their superior, Donna, had recommended me for the position. I felt so confident and relaxed that I was able to portray my personality, and I believe that was a huge benefit to my hiring process. I have been working with Topgolf for about a year now, and I will be starting full-time as a Financial Analyst Jr. on January…
