Identifying Information
The Johnson Family is a middle class African American Family located in Southern California. This family consists of 4 members. The mother Melody Johnson (age 52) father Keith Johnson (age 53) first born son Keith Johnson II (age 25) and daughter Tatiana Johnson (age 22). The mother has been a registered nurse for the past 20 years and the father has worked for the United States Postal Service for the past 22 years.
Biological factors and functioning
Each family member is physically healthy and does not currently suffer from any disabilities. The mother does have a history of chronic migraines and believed that she wasn’t there for her children as much as she wanted to because of the pain. The most significant traumatic event that they experienced as a family was the death of the family pet Muffy. She was in the family for over 12 years and death from cancer. Emotionally the family did not take that loss easily.

The family life cycles describes the emotional and intellectual stages that one experiences from childhood to retirement (Hutchinson, 2015). As a family the Johnsons are in the stage of the family life cycle known as launching young adults. This stage consists of the development of adult-to-adult relationships between children and parents (Walsh, 2011). As well as children moving out of the home and starting to create their own families. This stage suits this family because of the age of the children as well as the factor that the eldest child has moved out of the home and has his own home with fiancé. The dynamic of the relationships between the parents and children have significantly changed because of the openness and honesty with parents.
