Johns Letter To His Son Analysis

Improved Essays
First I would like to say that Johns letter to his son hit me very close to the heart, it is very beautiful and heartfelt containing so much meaning. I think john is showing his son he can be different and have an impact on the world by always choosing love, in my opinion to love another is the supreme sacrifice of self. For we must give freely and completely of ourselves to another, without reservation or condition. To give less serves only to hinder the growth of our evolution from self sustaining isolation to a greater joining of universal awareness. As children we love by instinct but it is a selfish love. One which results out of necessity, born of helpless reliance on others for survival, it is an innocent love.
I would have to agree with John because I feel he's trying to show his son not only what emotions he could potentially feel but how to deal with them. It’s not always easy to understand a feeling when it happens, especially if you think you shouldn’t feel it. When an emotional trauma occurs, there is the choice to either deal with it effectively or to turn away from it. When we choose to turn away from it, we must do something with the energy of the situation. We either repress/suppress the emotions, express them, possibly saying things out of anger or distracting ourselves with something else. I feel my mind is warehouse of memories is filled with

I think the majority of people who read Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, can relate to a lot of themes and cultures throughout the book, but Hal’s tendencies and idiosyncrasies are especially relatable to a specific group of people. Hal represents a culture of people who are obsessive thinkers and indescribably complex.

Jeremy, your opening words really resonate with me. " ... law brings bondage and grace brings freedom. This freedom in Christ is not a self-indulgent freedom either, but a freedom in which one is liberated to serve and forgive his fellow man. " I also discussed the fact that as Christians we are free but also slave to all, meaning that we are to serve and lay our lives down for others. As I read your post I began to think about Antonio and how he made himself a slave for his friend Bassanio, which in turn reminds me of Christ who laid down his life for us.…

As I meditate on 1 John 3:16-18 the central principle I feel shown is that sacrificial love is a love of action. The author is John, son of Zebedee who is one of the original twelve apostles. He wrote this letter to believers who struggled with false teachers trying to teach them in ways that were not what Jesus taught His followers. John needed to remind them that love, as shown to us by Christ, should spur the believer into action. Jesus so loved all that He became the final sacrifice for sin.…

A Better New World The Brave New World was a failed attempt at paradise. It’s failure came about the classic casus belli that the ends justify the means. When you have the impossible end of perfection, you have the impossible means of oppression. Philadelphia is proud of the reputation of being “the city of brotherly love”, with the LOVE park and sign right in Center City. However, Philly has gained a reputation for something else in recent years that have brought this nickname into a question; this city has become an example of rising gun violence, with constant shootings and multiple deaths. Every day and night, people are shot and often even killed for various and sometimes mysterious reasons. The city of brotherly love is in desperate need of more control of armed weapons, because gun violence has led to an increase in violence and deaths, weapons are too easy to obtain, and the police are being rendered powerless to stop the rising shootings. Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia is…

John does give a warning to Sherlock that he should not use his computer, though being polite in not stating what he means explicitly. Sherlock in turn answers the question on a literal level, by simply affirming John's question. He even states where his computer is at the given time, to make clear that it couldn't be his computer.…

What is love? It pervades human history and our cultures, yet defining it can be difficult as the word love is used in a myriad of fashions. Love is used as a universal moniker for kindness and compassion, or to denote seemingly differing levels of feelings toward something or someone; “I love you mom.” or “I love that reality show.” Merriam-Webster defines Love as “a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.”…

'Because' by James McAuley was published in 1971 in 'Collected Poems 1936 - 1970'. ' Because' describes McAuley’s memory of the limited affection and love McAuley's parents showed. The poet blames his unhappiness and inability to love on their lack of warmth towards him. My visual representation is of a boy looking into a mirror and only being able to see his parents, facing away from each other, as McAuley believes that their lack of love influenced his identity. The poem gives an insight into how memories and experiences of the past can influence a person's future.…
