When people begin to read “ The Waters of Babylon” they might believe the story takes place centuries back but it actually is the opposite. Other stories show readers a journey of somebody trying to find love, pride, and treasure.In this story it is someone trying to find answers as he discovers things he has never known. The journey one full of the unknown and of understanding things the character barely knows of.
The main character of the story is a youngman named John. John is on this journey to earn the title of being a man. He is a very brave and curious persson. John goes beyond what allowed because he knows there's more to the world than just what he sees and knows. In his world going to the “Land of the Gods” a journey no one ever dared to think of embarking on. Another character in the story is John's father, a priest but we aren't told his name. The story seemed to be told as if it were years after it happened, because in situations where the description should be uncomfortable and yet it seems to be very vaguely identified. “It is not easy to kill a panther with one arrow, but the arrow went through his eye and into his brain. He died as he tried to spring." This narrative was supposed to be intense and thrilling because John experienced a situation that could end his life, and he described so blatantly that readers would have hard time feeling emotion that keep them on the edge of their seat.
“By the waters of Babylon” shows us into an idea of what the world may look like in the future if we continue to carry on it hour habits. We don't think twice about the environment in terms of building nuclear weapons for our enemies. We should put our fights and need for power aside and work on making thing so make the world better instead of destroying it for power and money because one day we may have nothing to even destroy anymore if we continue the way we
