Johns Hopkins Observation Report

Why Hopkins? I knew this conversation well, but each time it was marginally varied. Today the aroma of popcorn wafted my way as I sat at a table in Target. “We are moving to Baltimore this summer,” my dad said. Thus began another relocation experience, one that continued to foster my diverse interests. Having the ability to pursue a wide range of subjects is important to me, and I need a college that would allow that. Because of its flexible curriculum, Johns Hopkins would be a place where I could build my interests of computer science, genetics, and community service. Computer science is one of my main focuses and my intended major. This was first established when I attended the Friends School of Baltimore, and is continued through my high school’s wrestling team. Here I had the chance to teach younger kids at a local wrestling club. At first, having to stay after practice and help out annoyed me, but as I kept coaching, I came to enjoy it. One of the greatest aspects of Johns Hopkins is that it is quite easy to become involved in community service through the Center for Social Concern. The Tutorial Project is something specific that I will pursue, as that would allow me to help local children. Moreover, giving back to Baltimore is important to me because I used to live there and it is a phenomenal city. I will always remember that day in Target, because of the life changing impact moving has had on me. My history of moving created the diversity in my life, and I hope to be able to continue fostering that through my college years. Based on the opportunities offered, Johns Hopkins is a school that would encourage my diverse interests of computer science, genetics, and community service, so it would be the perfect college for
