On line 36, Joe’s father tells Joe to go fishing with Bill Harper, ultimately ending the annual tradition. Not only he allow Joe to go with his friends, but he also gave Joe his fishing rod. Lines 43 to 53 indicate that the rod was special to Joe’s father and “there was nothing his father treasured more”.
