John Winston Lennon was born a simple man, but his musical talents helped shape the history of rock and roll and he continues to inspire thirty-five years after his death. John’s life was a struggle when he was younger, however, he used his musical talents to become one of the greatest selling artists of all time. John grew up in Liverpool, England and went to school at the Liverpool Arts College. John was born in 1940. His mother was unable to take care of him, so she gave him to her sister to raise. Mark David Chapman shot John Lennon seven times in front of John and Yoko’s apartment building. John was rushed to the hospital in a police car but bled to death before he got there. On December 8th, 1980 the world was appalled to learn of John Lennon’s death (Talevski, 2015). Mark David Chapman was waiting for John in front of his apartment building. Mark Chapman shot John while he was signing an autograph (Holm-Hudson, 2006).

Remembering John Lennon. Many people loved John, loved his music and talked about how they felt when he had died. Keith Richards from the rolling stones remembers John was a singular man, but when John was with the Beatles he was a part of that special team. Ronnie Spector heard the news of John’s death when she was in the studio, she was so distraught she couldn't get out of bed for a week. Shirley Manson from the group Garbage remembered hearing the news of John’s death from her teacher and class (“John Lennon Remembered,” 2000).

John’s life is an example of how one life can change the world. He was an unwanted baby, but his music shaped rock and roll history, influenced musicians, and is still influencing people today. John was really integral to some people. John’s music encouraged others to express love and to speak out against
