John is really a unique character who follows his heart throughout the story. In the story John wants to go east to meet the “gods.” Even though he was warned not to go east. John was so motivated to go east because of the dreams that he had been getting and because he is the son of a priest. The main character is a round character because his thoughts and emotions kept changing during the whole story. For example when John was on his journey there was a moment where he wanted turn around go back home safe, but he did what his heart desired and kept going to the “ city of gods.”
I think that the author made the character like this because he was trying to tell people to follow their hearts.

What I can say is that in the exposition we no that the main character is John and that he is the son of a priest. Also how he is training to become a priest because he touched metal and he didn’t die. For the Conflict of this story is self vs society and self vs self. It’s self vs society because during the course of the story Johns society has had an issue with going east. It was forbidden to go east because you might end up dying. The second conflict that this story has is how John has the urge to go and explore the east. Even though he could end up dying, his lack of knowledge about the east is making him crave for that knowledge. John made a decision that he will do what his heart desires and go east. This brings us to the rising action . First John gets a sign from and eagle going east. He follows that eagle and ends up have to cross a river. John uses his motivation to build a raft to cross the river. Furthermore there are two possible climaxes. The first possible climax is when John had a dream which he saw attacked during the “great burning.” In addition the second climax is when John saw where he entered a room where he saw a preserved man sit. That’s when he noticed that there was no gods and that thy are humans just like him. In the story it states “... I knew he was a man- I knew then that they had been men, neither gods nor demons.” Finally the resolution is when John returns how and tells his father about his experience and knowledge of the people in the place of gods.
Point of view
For the story The waters of Babylon the author uses first person point of view. Throughout the story the reader is put on the mindset of John. The readers knew what John was thinking. They knew what John wanted to do during the story. It was all through John perspective.
