John Travolta was born into a family full of entertainers on February 18, 1954, in Englewood, New Jersey, being the last of six other siblings. Travolta showed an interest for acting when he was young and decided to drop out of high school at 16 years old to pursue his interest. His parents approved of his decision and he was also encouraged by his drama teacher along with an actress he knew. After dropping out, his interest grew into a career. He began acting for commercials and acting in small television roles (“Travolta, John, Britannica.”) Then, at 19 years old he made his debut on the off-Broadway show, Rain. Following the short run of Rain, John became a part of the cast in the Broadway musical, Grease, as a replacement cast member. After Grease, he made his Broadway debut in the musical, Over Here! In 1974. Then in 1975, the television show, Welcome Back, Kotter, debuted and Travolta immediately gained fame from his role in the show as Vinnie Barbarino. Welcome Back, Kotter ran until 1979, but in between 1975 and 1979, Travolta had already starred in …show more content…
Travolta married actress Kelly Preston in 1991 in Paris, France. The couple has regularly attended marriage counseling and Travolta has stated that the counseling has helped them (“Travolta, John,” Funk & Wagnalls) John and Kelly had their first child in 1992, Jett, named after John’s love for flying and aircrafts. In 2000, they had a daughter named Ella Bleu and had a third child in 2010 named Benjamin. In 2009, during a family vacation in the Bahamas, tragedy struck the family. Their son, Jett, who was 16 years old at the time, had a seizure in the bathroom and hit his head on the bathtub causing Jett to die.
