John Tone In 'There Will Be Blood'

John Wayne plays a stubborn, but strong willed man in Red River. Playing Thomas Dunson came off as one of the more believable performances. Wayne uses his voice much more than his body. Psychically he is a bit stiff, but that may be because he’s hardly moving around in the film. His expression are smooth just like his voice, all of the emotion the character is feeling comes out in the way he speaks and looks. Once things start to pick up, you can almost feel the difference in character because he becomes grittier. Wayne’s lack of different facial features made moments where he did smile or any moment where he wasn’t being overly headstrong all the more evident. For example, at the end of the movie when Tess points the gun at him, his expressions …show more content…
His performance was very believable, so believable that at times I forgot that this was a character. When Daniel Plainview was trying to strike a deal in the Sunday’s home, he would touch the fathers arm when he was trying to come off as sincere. When Day-Lewis wanted to show that the character was getting frustrated he spoke faster, but kept a facial expression that didn’t match his tone. Another thing I really enjoyed about this performance was how well Plainview’s aggression come off, it was clear and believable. The way the character handled his anger was always based on the situation he was in, but his anger was always obviously there to the viewer. There were two parts of this movie I really loved, the ending and the scene before the ending. With the help of good writing, his dialogue with Eli and having to chase him around the room wrapped the movie up nicely and showed how much of a prideful character this is. When Plainview was talking to his deaf son, Day-Lewis glowed with anger and displeasure, it was defiantly and interesting point in the movie that let the viewer know everything they thought about the character was

Where as I normally end up arguing against why a film should be considered a horror film, this time I'm going other way and argue why Lightning Bug is a Horror film. As I stated in Horror, My Definition, a Horror film is a film that used dread and horror, while trying to evoke negative emotions. Lightning Bug does that for me, upon first viewing I wasn't that impressed and disregarded is horror elements. Instead focusing on how its a Coming of Age Drama. But after viewing the film never really settled and has passed through my mind on several occasions and when I reflect on the film it's dark and haunting undertones that remain.…

The book Simply Christian by N.T. Wright there are three main parts, “Echoes of a Voice”, “Staring at the Sun”, and “Reflecting the Image”. In part 1, “Echoes of a Voice”, he isolates four voices: the longing for justice, the thirst for spirituality, the craving for relationships, and the attraction of beauty each of which point the human soul toward God. He focuses on our longing for justice first. He doesn’t understand how on one hand we all have the same sense that justice exists but on the other hand after millennia of humans existing we can’t get any closer to it than the ancients did.…

While I found everyone believable, I found The General, played by Craig Culp, and J. Edgar Groover, played by Greg Threlkeld, to be the most convincing of the cast. From his wide dramatic movements to his round about way of speaking, Culp encapsulated the perfect manipulative, freak show, scam artist. You knew from the…

He did a great job of projecting and adjusting his voice and tone, catering to the climate of the scenes in order to better embody his character. He demonstrated this in act one, where upon meeting his co-star, gets into an unexpected argument with her. Ford starts off very soft spoken and calm, but upon being asked a question about his current girlfriend, Ford comes to an abrupt stop, looks away from his co-star, and off into the distance, displaying his displeasure and frustration with the question. When asked again, he sharply lifts his head up while gradually increases the volume of his voice, snapping back, that she should mind her own business in a harsh and mean tone. The way Ford maneuvered his voice and tone to build up to that outburst, made the scene that much more authentic.…

The film opens with the 2000 U.S. presidential election, questioning the legitimacy of George W. Bush’s win in Florida against Al Gore. Gore is the frontrunner until Fox News predicts Bush as the winner, causing all other networks to retract their previous statements about Gore and agree with Fox News. It is then revealed the man responsible for calling Fox News’ predictions about the winner is the first cousin of Bush. Moore also suggests fraud was committed as Bush won in Florida by a slight percentage – a state of which his brother is governor of, and the woman…
