John Thornton: Comparing The Book And Movie

Decent Essays
A big difference is that the character John Thornton is introduced earlier in the movie than in the book. I think the reason for that is so that you can understand how John was at Buck’s and the others’ sled path. In the book, it did not tell of John writing a journal. I think they added that for something extra. It could also be there to “fill holes” in the script.

In the movie, John Thornton shot a horse, but he didn’t in the book. I think that was to add some sort of tension to that one part. In the beginning of the movie, it spoke of John’s mom, but not in the book. I don’t know why they did

If you enjoy a book more than a movie. Then you’re going to agree with me if you have read the book of Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt and watched the movie Tuck Everlasting from Disney. Tuck Everlasting is a story about a girl named Winnie who meets a family that is burdened by being immortal. Natalie Babbit’s Tuck Everlasting is better than Disney’s Tuck Everlasting, because it gives more imagery, suspense, and characterization.…

The resolution in the book “The Call of The Wild” by Jack London, and the movie “The Call of The Wild” by Peter Svatek are different. There are several things in the book that are different from the movie. As an example, in the book when John Thornton dies we don’t get to imagine the picture of him dying. Instead in the movie it shows how the Yeehats attack John Thornton when he was calling for Buck. Also in the book there were people with John Thornton, but in the movie we don’t hear anything about his friends.…

You can't completely fit a book into a movie, as you see this often in many movies that are made after books, like Harry Potter, The Fifth Wave, and Divergent. There often some details that get left out, and some things that never happened in the book, appear in the movie. This goes for a show as in the book version of the story “Call of the Wild” by Jack London, versus the film version (1972) by Ken Annakin. There are small details left out, like that Buck in the movie is a German Shepherd, while he is a Shepherd/ St. Bernard mix in the book. Nevertheless, these are the most prominent differences between the book and the movie.…

Some of the major differences between the novel and the movie is that in the movie, Holmes is able to inspect the body of Sir Charles whereas in the book, Holmes has to figure out how he died without getting to see the body. He is informed of the body on page 25 by Dr. Mortimer, who tells him that there were no injuries on him, which helps Holmes conclude that Henry had died from fright, not from the hound. Another major difference between the two works is that there was no mention of Laura Lyons and Mr. Frankland in the movie because there was no one playing those roles in the cast of the film. Laura Lyons and Mr. Frankland are a relevant part of the novel because on pages 162-167, Watson interrogates her and he finds out that she had a connection to Sir Charles.…

Thirdly, a really big difference is that in the book, Jane and Michael have younger siblings. While the movie is more child friendly and depicts the two main charters two fun loving people who are both really loyal to each other and to their original master which in the Tod’s case the old lady and for Copper the hunter. One of the main themes in the movie they portray the friend ship between the fox and the hound even though there are opposite type of animal. The moral of the book was that even though people might come from different backgrounds people can still be friends no matter who says otherwise or what the social norms say. And in the book the moral of the story was that don’t let hatred consume your life because people might spend all there their tlime spending hating on someone while people could forgive and live your life to the fullest. In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…

Movies have always had a way of bringing to life the written word. When a modern movie tries to portray the thoughts of long age, sometimes the perceptions of the modern world infiltrate the storyline. These perceptions can be seen when analyzing the movie versus the book of Solomon Northup’s 12 Years A Slave. Director Steve McQueen and screenwriter John Ridley were able to infuse the essence of Northup’s book, while also adding the views from now with regard to slavery.…
