The Book of Matthew is the first gospel of the New Testament; although the author is unknown many believe it was written by one of Jesus’ twelve apostles, Matthew. Matthew means “gift of the Lord” and the gospel Matthew means “good news for the Jews”. The book of Matthew was written to prove to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah. The first four gospels of the New Testament all tell the same story because each book was written for different groups; Matthew for Roman Empire, Mark for Romans, Luke for Greeks and John was written to all about the saving faith in Jesus. One of these who spoke of a Messiah was Jesus’ cousin named John the Baptist, which we begun to learn more about in Matthew. Matthew 3:1-3 states “In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” The message of John the Baptist to “repent” and stop sinning, seek forgiveness and live for the Lord, is a message of leading people to God and preparing them for what is to come. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”” This scripture means that Jesus had kept His promise which he previously spoke of rising after the third day. This scripture through the angel speaking documents another miracle and teaches us what happened to Jesus after he was crucified. These scripture also gives Mary Magdalene and Mary direction for them to tell His disciples and for what His disciples are to do
