The success of a student from any learning institution is always based on the final school grades. Therefore, the best students graduate with the highest marks while the academically weak end up with the lowest grades. The students who qualify with the best grades (k-12) find their opportunity to study in the best schools. However, with the current state of technology, civilization, and globalization severally questions need to be asked. John Taylor mentioned some of the most successful people known in history who received their education from home but still managed to make it in life. He acknowledged leaders, such as Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington as prominent people who shaped the modern American history “Gatto 37”. They were not products of the current compulsory schooling system but still afforded to develop the rich history of the U.S., which is celebrated to date. Rather than providing the practical skills and experience needed to shape the real world, the system only produces mediocre intellects who are products of good grades but not practical knowledge and skills “Ellwood n.p.”. In fact, Taylor asserted that both learners and their instructors are bored of the system; pupils continuously complain of the boredom in classrooms since the teachers do not teach them what they observe in the real world. On the other hand, teachers have continued to lose interest in teaching pupils who are only concerned about grades but not the real-world knowledge, skills, and experience “Gatto 36”. Indeed, the current compulsory system of education is a drawback to students’ skill development.
The modern compulsory primary and secondary systems of education is a failed strategy, which merely torments children with the pressure of achieving good grades. It fails to train learners about the real-world skills and experiences and is thereby regarded as a considerable drawback to the society. Instead, homeschooling should be considered as an alternative in the modern globalized and technologically advanced human society.
